Hezekiah was a king who loved God and depended on His power. But just because Hezekiah followed God and God was with him, that didn’t mean he never had to go through anything hard again.
Watch what happened to him:
The king of Assyria had defeated many other nations before he attacked Judah, but they were all nations that didn’t follow God. They followed false gods that couldn’t help them. The king of Assyria told Hezekiah and the people that God couldn’t help them, either.
Hezekiah knew God could save them because He truly is God. He asked God to rescue them so that everyone else would know He is the only true God. God did rescue them!
God also answered Hezekiah's prayer when he was sick, and God healed him.
What’s the point of this story? What does it mean for us, in the United States, 3,000 years later?
God cares about what we’re going through and wants us to turn to Him.
When Hezekiah’s city was surrounded by enemies, and then when he was really sick, God was with him and cared about him. God showed everyone how powerful He is, and also how much He loved Hezekiah.
When we go through hard times, it doesn’t mean God doesn’t care about us. Bad things happen in this world because of sin. Sometimes God lets us go through struggles because it helps us depend on Him, and it lets Him show His love and power to us and the people around us.
In this story, we saw two examples of how God showed His power and helped Hezekiah. He helps us, too! Sometimes he heals us when we’re sick, and sometimes he protects us from getting hurt or provides for our needs in a special way.
Sometimes we can’t actually see God’s power at work. Another important thing to remember is that God knows more than we do. We might think we know what’s best and what God should do, but we don’t. He does. He always does what is best, even if we don’t understand. He might not give us the exact answer we’re hoping for. But even when we can’t see it, we can trust that He is there, holding us up with His power.
