When things happen in our lives, we might feel happy, sad, afraid, or even angry. The way we feel on the inside comes out through the way we act, the things we say, and the looks on our faces.

God gave us those emotions, and it’s one of the ways He made people special. But we should never let our feelings keep us from trusting and obeying God!

We can learn a lot about this from a man in the Bible named Joseph. Joseph loved God, but it seemed like bad things kept happening to him! He probably felt very sad, afraid, and alone. But instead of letting those feelings control him, he chose not to focus on sadness, fear, loneliness, or anger. He kept trusting God and doing what he knew God wanted him to do. God was with him and had a plan the whole time!

Acts 7:9-14

These patriarchs were jealous of their brother Joseph, and they sold him to be a slave in Egypt. But God was with him and rescued him from all his troubles. And God gave him favor before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. God also gave Joseph unusual wisdom, so that Pharaoh appointed him governor over all of Egypt and put him in charge of the palace.

But a famine came upon Egypt and Canaan. There was great misery, and our ancestors ran out of food. Jacob heard that there was still grain in Egypt, so he sent his sons—our ancestors—to buy some. The second time they went, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers, and they were introduced to Pharaoh.  Then Joseph sent for his father, Jacob, and all his relatives to come to Egypt, seventy-five persons in all.

Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
